NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

Ferrous March 1-April 14, 2013, at Velvet da Vinci Gallery, 2015 Polk Street, SF. An exhibition of jewelry made from iron, steel, and steel alloys, featuring over 60 artists. It will take place simultaneously at Velvet da Vinci Gallery and as a virtual exhibition at crafthaus online.

 

All the Food That’s Fit to Paint February 21-March 21, 2013, at Pot & Pantry, 593 Guerrero Street, SF. A beautifully delicate collection of water colors of local foods and dishes by Kelly Waters.   

China’s Terracotta Warriors: The First Emperor’s Legacy February 22-May 27, 2013, at Asian Art Museum, 200 Larkin Street, SF.

Roots and Relics February 27-April 7, 2013, at Campfire Gallery, 3344 24th Street, SF. In this body of work Cindy Steiler explores stories of roots both as our connections to the past and those we choose to grow while living. Steiler uses objects from the past and her take on the traditional craft of embroidery to spin these contemporary tales.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Social Fabric January 27-May 5, 2013, at the Craft and Folk Art Museum, LA. An exhibition of seven contemporary artists who confront the problems of mass production and consumption through fiber-based art that incorporates social engagement and public interaction.

NORTHWEST

Object Focus: The Bowl March 7-September 21, 2013, at the Museum of Contemporary Craft, Portland, OR. The second in the Object Focus series, this two part exhibition focuses on an archetypal cultural form: the bowl. Featuring nearly 200 bowls, the show focuses attention on the most commonplace of objects, asking us to consider the ubiquitous bowl in new ways.

EAST COAST

Return to the Sea: Saltworks by Motoi Yamamoto March 2-May 26, 2013, at the Mint Museum, NC. Salt (along with being the third part to our name), is a traditional symbol for purification and mourning in Japanese culture, used to ward off evil spirits and to attract benevolent ones. Motoi is known for working with salt, often in the form of temporary, intricate, large-scale installations. His art radiates an intense beauty and tranquility, but also conveys something ineffable, painful, and endless.

Playing with Fire: 50 Years of Contemporary Glass November 6, 2012-April 7, 2013, at the Museum of Art and Design, NYC. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the birth of the American Studio Glass movement, this show takes a comprehensive look at the breadth of innovative processes and artistry in contemporary glass.

Spoon | Fed March 15-May 31, 2013, at The Center for Craft, Creativity, & Design, Hendersonville, NC. This exhibit will feature the work of four international emerging artists and craftspeople who make, manipulate or are inspired by the archetype of the spoon.

Adornments & Delights: Five Jewelers Courting Nature February 17-June 16, 2013, at Fuller Craft Museum, MA. Featuring five extraordinary jewelers, this exhibition showcases 67 pieces of jewelry that explore nature through unique perspectives.

The Palm Beach Fine Craft Show March 1-3, 2013, at the Palm Beach Convention Center.

American Craft Council Show: Atlanta March 14-17, 2013, at Cobb Galleria Centre. This is the largest juried, indoor craft show in the southeast, with more than 200 of the country’s best contemporary jewelry, clothing, furniture and home décor artists  – a must-attend for craft lovers!

Architectural Digest Home Design Show March 21-24, 2013, at Pier 94, NYC. A world of design inspiration awaits at the 12th annual Architectural Digest Home Design Show. Explore the latest products for the home. Shop from new and established brands. Get inspired by new ideas and insight from top talents in the industry.

UK

Learning in Glass February 22-April 6, 2013, at The Aram Gallery, London. Fourteen experimental handblown vessels by seven designers are shown here as examples of what can be achieved by varying one element in a making process – the mould.

Interwoven March 8-April 21, 2013, at Platform, London. An exhibition celebrating the art of weaving for interiors; exploring new technologies and different approaches to design that demonstrate surprising innovation within this versatile tradition.

CAA Maker Auction March 4-14, 2013, at Contemporary Applied Arts, London. An auction of CAA members work to help raise funds towards the move to a new gallery space in June 2013.

Manchester Antique Textile Fair March 3, 2013, 10am-4:30pm, at Armitage Centre, Fallowfield, Manchester. Explore the wealth of antique textile and vintage fashion dealers at this a firm favourite for enthusiasts looking to collect, wear, and discover.
