Rare Device Valentine’s Trunk Show February 9, 2013, at Rare Device, 600 Divisadero Street, San Francisco. Featuring Zelma Rose, Jen Hewett, Emily McDowell and Karries Bakes, Valentine’s Trunk Show showcases a curated selection of stunning jewelry, colorful apparel, illustrated prints and baked goods – all sure to make perfect gifts for that special someone.
Singularity: Christopher Kurtz February 8-April 31, 2013, at Hedge Gallery, 501 Pacific Ave, San Francisco. Inspired by dance and movement, sculptor Christopher Kurtz constructs carved pieces of wood that appear to elongate and stretch out into dynamic compositions. Opening reception: February 7, 5:30-7:30 pm. Guest lecture at the California College of the Arts: February 5, 7:30-9 pm.
Sustenance Opening reception: February 1, 2013, at Rare Device, 600 Divisadero Street, San Francisco. A group gallery exhibition with a focus on the unique histories of 600 Divisadero and the positive effects the residents of the space have had on the community. Curated by Lauren Venell, and featuring local art by Lauren Venell, Heather Haridson, Samantha Barsky, Alyson Thomas, Dan Brazelton, Tina Jett, Ally Trigg, Andrew Venel and Karen Curtiss.
Homing, February 7-23 at Store Front Lab, 337 Shotwell Street San Francisco. Visual artists Todd Laby, Audrey Heller and Pamela Merory Dernham explore origins, memory and finding your bearings. Check out Todd Laby’s haunting Migrating Houses installation.
Silk: Maya Kini February 2-March 31, 2013, at Shibumi Gallery, 1402 Fifth Street, Berkeley. Bay Area-based artist, Maya Kini, explores the complexities imbedded in the materials of a jeweler, in her solo show featuring jewelry made using silk, silver, bone, gold, steel, and enamel.
Objects of Belief from the Vatican: Art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas February 9-September 8, 2013, at De Young Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco. The first time that a U.S. exhibition will focus on the Vatican’s collection of ethnographic art, including 80,000 objects that represent artistic achievements by indigenous cultures from Asia, Oceania, Africa, and the Americas.

Good Enough to Eat: Food as Subject for Craft February 2-April 6, 2013, at The Craft in America Study Center, LA. A feast for your senses, this unique exhibition features work by artists who deal with edible subject matter in their creations. From glass to metal and paper to ceramics, you’ll see food in a whole new light.
Palm Springs Modernism Week February 15-February 18, 2013. Join in on the celebration of mid-century modern design, architecture, and culture.
Scratching the Surface: Contemporary Wood Sculpture, January 27-May 5, 2013, at Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles. An exhibition featuring unique sculptural forms that explore the naturally occurring textures and irregularities of wood.

Women Working Words February 6-February 26, 2013, at Facere Jewelry Art Gallery, Seattle. A celebration of the Literary and Jewelry Arts by 13 Women Artists.

American Craft Council Show Baltimore February 22-February 24th, 2013 at the Baltimore Convention Center. American Craft Council’s flagship show, where hundreds of the country’s best contemporary jewelry, clothing, furniture, and home décor artists gather in one spot to present a spectacular season of fine quality craft.
Consciousness February 1-June 16, 2013 at the Pittsburg Glass Center. Korean-born artist Eunsuh Choi gives viewers a chance to identify their own dreams with her portrayal of the human need to progress to remembrance in this new exhibition of flameworked glass.
Blue and White: Richard Shaw and Dorothy Feibleman February 2-February 28, 2013, at Mobilia Gallery, MA. Featuring the work of two renowned ceramicists, this exhibit provides two different interpretations of blue and white. Opening reception: February 16, 3-5 pm.
Happy Days: Shirly Bar-Amotz February 13-March 11, 2013, at Gallery Loupe, NJ. Israeli native, Shirly Bar-Amotz, combines cheap, readymade materials with precious metals and stones to create snapshots of fantasy – a reference to the material European culture that Israeli society redefined in an attempt to create a new culture. Artist reception: February 16, 7-9 pm.
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week February 15-February 19, 2013, at the Lincoln Center, NYC. Mingle with the elite at NYC’s single largest media event, where the world’s top designers showcase their newest collections.
The Tool at Hand February 1-April 28, 2013 at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Philadelphia. Sixteen established artists from Britain and America were invited to participate in an experiment: each artist was asked to craft a work of art using only one tool. These are the results, and they’re spectacular.
