Based, as we are, in California, it’s hard NOT to have a bit of a bias towards the incredible making and designing going on in our own back yard.
That’s why, together with Forest Dickey of Varian Designs, we’ve curated something to celebrate these uniquely Californian creations: 100% California, a showcase (and for all you shoppers, a fabulous pop-up store) of our favorite work in the Golden State as part of the Dwell on Design show in Los Angeles from June 21-23.
So, who’s going to be there?
Look out for Elisa Bongfeldt (jewelry), Forest Dickey of Varian Designs (furniture), Heather Palmer (glass), John Ford (furniture), Samantha Grisdale (jewelry), John Liston (furniture), Lee Miltier (glass), Mark Goudy (ceramics), Marcus Papay (furnishings and lighting), Meghan Urback (textiles and rugs), Sara Paloma (ceramics), and David Johnson of Sidecar Furniture (furnishings).
A Handful of Salt favorite, The Workshop Residence, will be there, too, showcasing artisans who’ve had residencies there and whose work they help produce and sell. The Workshop has an especially great line up, even for them: Japanese-themed cushions and fabrics from Maki Aizawa, bags from Lauren DiCioccio, clothing from Ann Hamilton, blankets and sculptural blocks from Jim Isermann, lighting from Johanna Grawunder, and textiles (tabletop and otherwise) from Jennifer Morla.
And finally, you’ll be able to pick up YOUR VERY OWN copy of the print edition of Handful of Salt.
If all this isn’t enough to get you in, we don’t know what is.
We think that California’s “brand” is one of the most eclectically sophisticated around, a rather wild mix of vibes, from laid-back, beachy and organic; to industrial, techy, and sleek; to emotional, sensual, and untamed.
But that’s what we think. Stop by, take a look, do some shopping and tell us what YOU think.
Can’t wait to see you there.
