Silicon Valley. Home.

What do those three words conjure up? Walls that sense your mood and change hue accordingly? Skateboard ramps and grafitti in the living room? Something out of Blade Runner? Antiseptic modernism? Steampunk? Cutting-edge design? No design?

Come on, you’ve got to be curious. So go and find out next weekend, because Dwell Home Tours (which has grown from Marin and LA-only to include San Francisco, San Diego and New York/Brooklyn) is coming to the Silicon Valley.

Dwell’s Silicon Valley Home Tours takes place on Saturday, November 3rd and Sunday, November 4th and showcase ten homes that demonstrate, as Dwell puts it, “The most forward-thinking approaches to site planning and sustainability.”

Looking for context? There’s a Meet the Architect’s reception on Friday, November 2nd.

There are ten homes on the tour: “Williams Residence” by 360 Design Studio, “Menlo Oaks Residence” by Ana Williamson Architect, “House For A Structural Engineer” by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, “Jay Street House” and “Woodview Terrace” by Field Architecture, “Clay Project” by KC Cullen Design for Living, “Hillsborough Residence” by Kuth/Ranieri Architects, “HYPEREICHLER” by M110 Architecture, “Los Altos Hills Family Residence” by Cass Calder Smith Architecture and “Atherton Residence” by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects.

The tour includes a pair of original Eichlers (the HYPER EICHLER and Clay residences), each restored with respect for the developer’s original vision but with modern, and very different, interpretations.

Eichlers seem to be having their moment. The documentary, “People in Glass Houses: The Legacy of Joseph Eichler,” by leading Eichler Specialist and filmmaker Monique Lombardelli recently premiered at an Eichler Speaker Series celebrating 50 years of developer Joseph Eichler’s Upper Lucas Valley community in Marin County, California.

Tickets for Dwell Home Tours can be purchased here. Purchase a 2-day pass and receive 1 free ticket to the Meet the Architects reception on Friday, November 2nd. Single day passes are also available. A portion of all ticket proceeds will benefit Dwell Home Tours’ non-profit partner, Architecture for Humanity .
